Piki Houde (aka Piki Soul) - June 22, 2017

"Update #25 – June 18, 2017 from Piki Houde’s GoFundMe Page

Dear friends of Piki,

With great sadness, I must tell you that our beloved friend, Piki, passed away earlier this evening, surrounded by her family.

Om tryambakam yajamahe..."

Piki's Prayer

You will always be the beacon of light in my life
And the candle that burns brightly in my heart
As we journeyed through this life’s peaks and valleys
We grew together and became as one

You shared your wisdom
And unconditional love with peace and joy
I will forever hear your gentle voice
As I practice yoga and meditation
And feel your strong hands
Massaging and healing my body

Your warm presence rests softly all around me
Look for the burning candle
And I’ll be there for you my soul sister

Goodbye luv

Punk Revolution NYC - The Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls & the CBGCs Set

"Modern Music Begins With the Velvets – Lester Bangs

When, in 1964, an in-house songwriter for the Pickwick label was introduced to the Welsh viola player from avant-garde composer La Mont Young’s group, few predicted the profound effect this coming together would have on the development of global rock music.   But before the year was out, this unlikely had formed a band, hooked up with pop-art supreme Andy Warhol and, 12 months on, composed and were recording a collection of songs that many believed “started it all”.

I recently watched this 2-DVD 3-hour documentary film about the punk rock movement in New York during the 70s and must say I found it to be comprehensive, concise, as well as inspiring and entertaining.  Jam packed with historic video and film footage of interviews, live concerts, NYC 70s street life and intelligent narrative, there is lots to gleen from these fearless 70s trailblazers as they created the DIY ethos which continues to live on today. Nothing could stop them on their quest for self-expression and artistic integrity, all the while making no compromises. As I watched footage of the bands performing at CBGBs it was surreal, as if I was standing in the front row gazing up in awe at them.  History in the making.

Here are some of my favorite take-away videos from this documentary.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
